Sketches on a scrapbook were the starting point for Midnight Youth drummer Aidan Bartlett and Stephen Marr hairdresser Donielle Brooke when they began designing their own range of jewels.

Inspired by themes and images as varied as love and heartache, bikers, tattoos and the ‘80s, the Auckland based duo formed ‘Eyes Of Common’ in 2010, taking the label’s name from a line in a Joanna Newsom song.

Their pieces would look right at home on the fingers of classic rock guitarists or around the neck of poets. Dark but with a positive edge, the silver pieces possess a solidity and permanence that transform them into statements of individuality and cultural exuberance. They look and feel arcane yet contemporary, suggesting other places and times while exuding the essence of modern tastes.
